FOSTER HOPE is a ministry God bloomed from a place of brokenness.
Honestly though, it’s been there a while.
For Scott, it grew as his childhood pastor bought a yellow truck and turned it into a mobile kids ministry, a ministry Scott worked with. It grew as a church he served at began building a field so the church could bring healing to a community with a history marked by deep tragedy. It continued to grow as he saw another pastor he served with bless hundreds of families with thanksgiving boxes each year. It grew as he worked with a camp for foster kids, some so broken, it left volunteers in tears.
For Heather, it grew in her work with kids. It grew as she studied to teach and continued to grow as God called her to kids ministry. It grew as she ministered to kids with special needs, giving them a safe space to worship Jesus. It grew as she partnered with local schools by organizing kids clubs. It grew even more while leading a camp for foster kids. It grew as she taught day in and ay out in the classroom.
It was grounded in healthy families that taught them what it meant to be a family, to follow Jesus, to love others, pray for others, and care for one another.
In the last couple of years, it has blossomed from a place of brokenness, brokenness born out of deep pain: Pain of infertility, pain of miscarriage, pain from loss.
This loss led to a new passion: Foster care.
It began however, in the words of Jesus when He taught in Matthew 25:40 for the church to love the least of these, the poor, the broken and the hurting.
We are reminded in James 1:27 that " Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
While pastoring in the local church, impactful community foster ministry included our compassion closet, equipping those who support foster families, and partnering with our local school district to meet the needs of foster and homeless youth.
Since 2022, we have fostered 8 children and have provided respite care for many others. We began full time foster care in July of 2023, opening up our home to 3 or more children at any given time.
The call to full time foster ministry began in early 2024 and led us to a faith decision to launch Foster Hope.
WE ARE AN APPOINTED MINISTRY WITH THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AND NEVADA ASSEMBLIES OF GOD DISTRICT
THEY SERVE AS OUR OVERSIGHT AND COVERING AS A MINISTRY.
